How We Manufacture Our Paper Cups
Raw Material Preparation
The manufacturing process begins with large rolls of paper. The paper used for cups can be coated with a thin layer of polyethylene (PE) for waterproofing if asked. This paper is purchased in large rolls that are prepared to be fed into the cup-making machines.
Printing and Cutting
Before being formed into cups, the paper is printed with the desired designs and branding. This is typically done using flexographic or offset printing. After printing, the paper is cut into small sheets or “blanks”, which are the precursors to the final cup shape.
Cup Forming
Each blank is fed into a cup forming machine, where it’s molded into a cup shape. This is achieved through a series of mechanical steps involving heat and pressure to shape the cup and seal the side seam.
Bottom Sealing
Once the cup’s main body is formed, the bottom piece, which is also a coated paper, is sealed on. This is done using heat to melt the polyethylene coating, which acts as an adhesive.
Rim Formation
The top rim of the cup is then rolled to create a smooth edge for drinking. This rimming process also helps strengthen the structure of the cup.
Inspection and Packaging
Finished cups undergo various inspections to ensure quality control, checking for leaks, print quality, and overall structure. They are then stacked, packaged, and shipped to distributors or direct customers.
